Secret Scientists

We had a great time in Science Week finding out about our world around us. We are learning about Mary queen of Scots who throughout her captivity , sent secret messages to her supporters in France and Spain.

We also learned about the French Resistance and how they sent secret messages during World War II.

Our experiment using lemon juice to create a secret message was very interesting. The children learned that using heat to break down the citric acid resulted in a deposit of carbon on the surface of the paper. This is called oxidation! Think of it a bit like too much heat creating carbon when you burn the toast!
