Welcome to the first ever P1 blog everyone!
What an exciting first two weeks we have had in Primary 1. It has been wonderful to meet all your little ‘Superstars’ and begin to get to know all their individual personalities.
We have been focusing hard on establishing routines and relationships. It is very important that we quickly establish a team environment in P1. Through games and during play we are working with the children to help them learn each other’s names and learn some of each other’s likes and dislikes.
IDL
Our topic this term is ‘Marvellous me’. This week in class the children have been sharing with peers and their teachers what some of their favourite things are.
Literacy
We have been focusing on kindness, friendships and listening and talking games over the last two weeks. We have shared lots of stories and have introduced questioning to the children. Sometimes the children were asked to share their answers with the person next to them and sometimes they were encouraged to share with the class. It is great to see even within the first few weeks how some children’s confidence has grown as they become more familiar with their surroundings and the adults/ children within the room. For writing the children drew themselves with some of their favourite things. We then scribed as the children shared their descriptions of their pictures with her. Please see attached some of their fabulous efforts.
Numeracy
We have been focusing on singing and joining in with number song actions. We have been looking at traditional counting songs and drawing/movements to numbers. For example; Can you do 5 star jumps? Draw 2 balls? Hop on one leg 4 times? The children have loved these short snappy carpet sessions.
Other Areas of Learning
On Monday the whole school was fortunate enough to watch the drama production of Oliver Twist. The P1s were able to sit next to their P7 buddies. We met with our P7 buddies in the small playground this week. Our focus was introducing the P1s to playground games in the hope that they can play these when outside at break and lunch. Attached are some photos of them in action. We played duck duck goose and What’s the time Mr Wolf in small groups. The P7s have been a fantastic support to our P1s over the last 2 weeks. It’s lovely to watch over the year how their bond grows as weekly buddy sessions will continue.
Additional Information
This blog will be updated weekly by Mrs Howitt and Mrs Meade. We aim to give you a ‘Snap Shot ‘of some of the highlights from our week and photos to share with your children. We find the photos are really helpful for encouraging conversation and getting the children to engage in ‘chat’ about what they have done at school/ who they have played with.
Have a wonderful weekend 🙂
We are looking forward to seeing all the childrens smiley faces next week ready for Week 3!
