Today we developed our skills and learning in writing, with a focus on verbs and similes. We used a video clip of black reef tip sharks herding a shoal of fish as our inspiration to analyse and write some scintillating similes
We carried on with the shark theme later in the afternoon. We looked at the average length of 10 different shark species, ordered them in length from shortest to longest, then we took our learning outdoors. In pairs, children accurately measured and drew their chosen shark.
We were surprised with how big some of the sharks were! We estimated using non-standard units (for example how many of our own feet or how many people long) the sharks were.
Our smallest was just about the size of an average child in our class, whilst the longest one was the size of 12 children.
We also squeezed in a fantastic quiz to sharpen up our general knowledge.
What a wonderful day full of fun and learning! Well done to all of the children for their hard work today, and I look forward to being back in class again next week!
