Rockets 🚀 Reading 📖 & Riding Broomsticks!🧹

Our highlights from week 3

◦ We wrote character descriptions from Room on the Broom using the Describing bubbles. What fantastically detailed pictures the children drew with some phenomenal descriptions!

◦ The P2s were using sausages and beans to help them blend their words. Digraphs are two letters representing one sound said together so we use a long (sausage) sound button to read them. Single sounds have a shorter sound so we made beans 🫘 sound buttons! The children might be able to explain this to you when they have practised a few times! 😆

◦ The P2s joined up with the other P2 class to read words together.

◦ The P1s learned the sounds r and e. To help us remember the sounds we made rockets 🚀 by making 3D shapes – a cylinder and a cone- rainbows 🌈 shaving foam eggs 🥚 we decorated envelopes with e sounds and had a sound hunt in our classroom.

◦ We have been using our blending mats and letters to read and have been using this strategy in our reading groups. We’ve also been focusing on picture clues and prediction. The P1s were introduced to the Robinson family and the ORT characters. Did you know that Kipper’s real name is Christopher and Biff’s real name is Elizabeth? We talked about nicknames and members of our own families.

◦ We had the best time launching r r rockets on the grass pitch. The rockets went so high! 🌌

◦ We have been working on learning our numbers and have been trying to spot patterns when looking at numbers to 100, 1000 and beyond! Some of us are learning about place value.

◦ Our book focus is The Tiger that came to Tea. Mrs Wood surprised us by coming to read the book in a tiger 🐯 mask! A friendly tiger mask I should say.

◦ We drew Tigers 🐅 using oil pastels and then painted them using an orange paint wash technique. The paintings are fierce and fantastic!

◦ In gym we played pass the broom and then had broomstick races!

◦ The P1s had fun with their P7 buddies making autumn and Halloween crafts.

◦ River was presented with this week’s Star of the Week award at assembly! ⭐️

◦ The P1/2 newsletter and dates for your diary were emailed to you on Friday and I will also attach a copy for you to read on the blog.

◦ I hope you all have a lovely weekend. Enjoy the fireworks and stay safe💥 if you are going to a display.

Miss Carson ☺️
