Going on a Bear 🐻 Hunt

Hello everyone. We had a busy week in P1/2. Here are our highlights.

β—¦ In Numeracy, we’ve been counting backwards, finding one less than any given number and identifying missing numbers in backward sequences. In groups we’ve enjoyed counting backwards through cutting and sticking tasks and finding missing numbers practically using concrete materials.

β—¦ The P1s played a ten frames game with milk bottle tops and huge dice. They absolutely loved it and found ways of making it extra fun. 🀩

β—¦ In Literacy, this week we introduced the story- We’re Going On A Bear Hunt. Mrs Macfarlane read the book to the infants.

β—¦ On Thursday, we joined the P1 class and went on a bear hunt with our teddies from home.

β—¦ In Phonics, the P1s learned the m and d sounds. Everyone loved making name dinosaurs (the P2s joined in with this activity too – more photos to follow next week) πŸ¦• printing with dinosaur πŸ¦– stamps, doing the letter d formation in different ways, m monsters and matching the m pictures to the sound.

β—¦ The P2s are consolidating blending and segmenting with single sounds and double sounds. They are using these skills in their reading books and when writing sentences. We also joined up with P2 again on Monday to create words with the digraphs th and oa.

β—¦ In writing, we described, β€œThe Tiger Who Came to Tea,” using the describing bubbles- colour, texture, number, position, size, shape, doing. We focused this week on colour and texture. We up-levelled some of our descriptions by using comparisons e.g. β€œas orange as the sunset,” β€œas soft as clouds.” The drawings and descriptions this week were terrrrrrrrific! πŸ…πŸ―

β—¦ Our Rights Respecting Ambassadors, Mya and Layla, attended the RRS meeting to share P1/2s ideas on how we can promote Article 31: The Right to Play and Relax. The children had some great ideas for developing our indoor and outdoor spaces to show our commitment e.g. an outdoor tent with tables so they can draw and eat outside! Someone suggested learning to cook in a tent. Lots of the children would like to see our outdoor Pirate Ship transformed so they can use their imaginations to sail it. They suggested sails and steering wheels. Some children would love to have more visitors to the school including animals like owls πŸ¦‰ and hedgehogs πŸ¦”. Another suggestion was to have a quiet area in school to meditate πŸ§˜β€β™€οΈ. We shared our Mind Map poster at assembly and on the wall at our Parents Nights appointments.

β—¦ In play, the children have been enjoying developing their construction skills with many creative builds being made! Following our 2 minute silence and learning about why some people wear poppies they made poppies in different ways.

β—¦ Rose and Antoni were awarded the Star of the Week certificates! ⭐️⭐️

β—¦ Next week we are looking forward to celebrating Scottish Book Week! πŸ“š

Have a great weekend everyone!
