Visitors
We were absolutely delighted to have Elliot’s mum and little sister come to read to us in the tent ⛺️ this week. It was very exciting to go in the tent and see the cushions and lovely lights as well as have a baby with us and a fun book read to us. Thank you so much! ☺️🌟
We also had Kirsty from the SSPCA visit us to teach us about looking after our pets. We split into groups and had to find the correct food, toys, care etc. for different animals. She told us that just like humans animals have different needs that need to be met. She reminded us that animals don’t have a voice and we need to observe them and look after them well. Thanks Kirsty! 🐶🐱🐇🐹🐰🐠🦎🐍
Literacy
In literacy, we learned about ‘settings’ where the story takes place and we wrote about a setting in, ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt.’ To warm up and strengthen our fingers we made Plasticine bears 🐻 in different settings. We used our sound mats and used our matching and blending skills. We had some fabulous drawings and descriptions of forests, caves and snowstorms. ❄️
The P1s and some of the P2s have been revising the single sounds they’ve been taught. We are focusing on recognising the sound and letter and we continue to practise blending words! We did an extra focus on the letter k and the P2s revised oo and ee!
Numeracy
In numeracy, we have been focusing on the number before and backwards counting within lots of number ranges. In our different groups. We have been finding missing numbers and the P2s are beginning to practise tens and ones and some of us are learning about hundreds also. In practical play activities, the children have been using counters and Cuisenaire rods to build but also use to help with number knowledge and make patterns.
Gymnastics!
In gym, we got the gym mats out much to the joy of the children! We had a session looking at our current skills in rolling, balancing and flexibility.
Christmas Performances!
We also began practising for the P1 nativity. Soon you will be hearing the infectious songs as they practice. The P2s will be working on different songs for their church performance.
