Some of the children have been showing a keen interest in cooking and baking. We have made our own bread, banana bread and soup so far! It was very yummy! Some skills the children have developed from this are:
* Listening skills – following instructions and turn taking.
* Hygiene and safety – the children can demonstrate what they need to do before they begin handling food and how to keep safe whilst using small electrical appliances to cook/bake with.
* New vocabulary including proving, ingredients, level, kneading (including the motion), measuring
In the Rainbow Room, we have turned our home corner into a cafe to extend our learning surrounding cooking/baking. The children have been very busy in here serving things to their peers and teachers. They even made some salt dough food including donuts, bagels, cheese twists and scones.
