Welcome back!! What a fun first week back we have had. We imagine you will have some very tired P1’s this weekend. As the week has gone on the energy levels have dipped!
Literacy:
In literacy this week we have introduced alien/ nonsense words. The children have had to sound out 3 lettered words ( with support) and decided if they are real/ nonsense words. We didn’t introduce any new sounds this week. That will happen on Monday. The children shared with their peers and P7 buddies about their holidays and also drew 2 of their holiday highlights.
Numeracy:
In maths this week we have introduced doubling. We have used numicon, songs, and cubes to reinforce this learning. This week we have looked at doubles up to double 5 5+5= 10. The children should hopefully be able to tell you that for a number to be a double it has to be the same amount on each side. We have also looked at writing number stories. The children are now familiar with the symbols + and =
Assembly-
P1 attended Assembly for the first time today. They were all really engaged and seem to particularly like listening to Mrs Snedden’s story. Each week in assembly there will be a Star of the Week. We will attach a photograph of our Stars to the blog.
IDL;
This term our topic will be Jobs in the Community. Thank you so much to everyone that has shared in the homework jotters their jobs. We will be in touch shortly to organise for some of you to come in or possibly share a little video telling the class what your job involves.We are also hoping to schedule some trips to some of the local shops in our community. The children are really excited about this topic.
