Another fun week in P1 this week. There was great excitement with the arrival of the snow ❄. Thank you for having them all so sensibly clothed it has made their outdoor play so much more enjoyable. It’s really handy to have a spare pair of socks in their bags just incase they get wet feet. We only have a small amount of spare socks in the school.
This week the children were introduced to the sounds f and b. We have made some amazing fish and practised our cutting skills to make a fox. In writing the children are being encouraged to write words that they can blend. This week we focused on the sentence starter… it is a… and the children changed the word at the end. Eg it is a dog. It is a red car. We are really encouraging the children to make the link between phonics and writing this term.
In maths we introduced the – away sign and have looked at being able to answer number stories with this in it. Eg 5-3= 2. At this stage we are encouraging the children to use concrete materials to support this learning. We talked about the rules of -0 , -1 and take away all.
For topic this week the children shared what they would like to be when they grow up. We also discussed different jobs you might find people doing on a construction site. See if they can remember any of the jobs and what they involve 🙂
Mrs Meade started working online with the class this week which was very exciting. Mrs Meade is working 1 to 1 with the children to reinforce sounds, blending skills and number work. 🤩
Have a lovely weekend in the snow ❄ Make the most of it while it lasts. Feel free to send Mrs Howitt any pictures or videos of your snowy fun. We can share them in class. We can’t wait to hear all your stories on Monday.
