It’s been another great week in Primary 3/4 LM.
We’ve started to do some buddy work with the P2s to help teach them some new maths games. This will help us reinforce some useful maths skills that we will need to be fluent in for some work that we will be starting soon. It’s also been great to develop our leadership, teaching and collaboration skills when working with others.
I’ve always been impressed with how conscientious P3/4 LM are when it comes to doing jobs that help others and the environment out. Our class were eager to volunteer for the role of litter pickers to help keep our playground looking tidy and also help protect the environment. The two daily monitors are doing this on days that we do our healthy hearts laps that way we can keep both ourselves and our playground healthy.
We’ve been continuing our work in science on the human body and have moved from looking at the skeleton to looking at the internal organs. The children have shown wonderful curiosity and have been asking an abundance of questions. They’ve shared lots of interesting facts from their own personal research too.
We were lucky to have Mr Thomson join us again to restart Kodaly. The children absolutely loved this and it was wonderful seeing them progress through the session with their concentration, rhythm and coordination. The words to the game we were playing were very catchy and are still ringing in my head now!
In literacy we’ve been working on character descriptions as part of our work on narrative (story writing). We are getting much better at coming up with descriptions that will entertain and interest the reader and are relevant to the story.
Finally, in maths, we’ve started exploring the world of fractions. I have been incredibly impressed by the children’s ability to problem-solve and apply the knowledge and skills we’ve learnt already to start to be able to independently solve problems they haven’t learnt about yet. The way the children are now noticing patterns and connections and engaging in whole class discussions where they debate ideas is wonderful. They are definitely demonstrating the attributes of great mathematicians!
