Week beginning 27th March

I can’t believe the final week of Term 3 is upon us so we’ve done a bit of a round up of things that have been happening! The year seems to be flying by.

As ever, it’s been a busy term and we’ve been very fortunate this term to have lots of outside experts visit us and a school trip to the cinema. The cinema trip to see The Inseparables tied in well with our writing work this term on narrative and also work we’ve been doing as part of Zones of Regulation. You perhaps got to see some of the wonderful narrative writing the children have been creating as a shared writing piece at parents evening. Everyone has been working hard to understand the structure of narrative writing and think of ways to use description to bring stories to life and entertain the reader.

Mr Thompson returned to carry on Kodaly with us. We learned about the beat and rhythm of music, how to identify different notes and we played lots of games to help us develop an understanding of these ideas. They were a lot of fun but also took a lot of concentration! The songs also have a way of getting stuck in your head so you find yourself singing them at unusual times! If your child enjoyed the sessions, they may be interested in attending the National Youth Choir in Inverness https://www.nycos.co.uk/choirs/nycos-inverness-choir/

We’ve also had Stephen, from Bellfield Park Tennis Club, help us develop our tennis skills which tied in nicely with the racket skills work we have been doing this term. It’s been great to see the children’s coordination and control develop over the term.

In science we’ve continued our learning about the human body. Our work has ranged from exploring the skeleton and trying to figure out where all the bones in our body go. We’ve also learnt some interesting facts about the skeleton and explored the position and role of some of our internal organs. The children had some great knowledge to share from their own experiences and asked some super questions about things they were curious about. You can see some of our ‘work in progress’ below before we adjusted a few things after our learning.

In maths the children have been continuing to learn about the structure of numbers, they’ve started to get to grips with fractions and returned to addition and subtraction with a focus on explaining our ideas clearly in words and with diagrams so we can more easily learn from each other. The P4s have also been continuing to learn about division.

Finally we’ve said some goodbyes and some hellos! We sadly said farewell to Aarya but had a lovely party to wish her well at her new school. I’m sure you’ll agree that the card that Amelia made for the class to sign was spectacular and provided a lovely parting gift.

We now welcome Mr Foxcroft who will be joining P3/4 LM as a student teacher from Aberdeen University. Mr Foxcroft spent this week with us and will be joining us for 5 weeks after the holidays too.

Have a great holiday everyone and we look forward to seeing you back after the break.
