Wowee! What a super busy fun packed week that was! Back from their holidays, the children were keen to share their adventures and were ready to get stuck in to learning! Our learning highlights-
◦ Learning about tally marks – using them to count objects, and in class surveys. We learned about groups of 5, and converted tally marks to numbers. We went on a colour scavenger hunt in the garden and a tally/number hunt indoors.
◦ We had a go at counting in 5s and 10s!
◦ Common and tricky words – we learned the spelling strategy, “Look, Say, Cover, Write, Check” to help us memorise our words.
◦ Reading – we’ve had a slight reading group reshuffle and we’ve been reading new books this week. Some of us are working very hard on being able to blend sounds together and some of us our aiming to work on our confidence and fluency. Practising our common and tricky words really help with this. Some groups have been working on comprehension and some on retelling. There are so many skills we need to use in reading!
◦ Sentences and phonics – we wrote sentences and spelled out words using the double/digraph sounds – ee, or, and qu.
◦ Drawing with detail – this week we drew wildcats!
◦ Gym – we had two fun gym sessions this week! We were able to use the whole gym (both sides) so we had lots of room to set up our stations and room to move! We also had the pleasure of having one session with the P5/6 class who set up some activities for us! They were such great encouragers and helped the children feel confident about learning some new skills! We are focusing on team work, fitness, and athletic skills. With sports day not too far away we are getting lots of practice!
Well done P1/2 for all of your hard work! Enjoy the weekend.
