Frog 🐸 Life Cycle and halving!

Hello! P1/2 had a super learning packed time this week. Our highlights are…

ā—¦ We have been learning about the Frog Life Cycle. The children were captivated by a time lapse video showing the stages of a frog’s development from egg to adult frog. We’ve learned some interesting facts about frogs and tadpoles and have based our writing and crafts around this. We will hopefully be sharing some of our learning around frogs at our learning assembly in two weeks time. 😁

ā—¦ In maths, we have been learning about halves (revising and extending for our P2s). The children have enjoyed learning to explore mathematical concepts and vocabulary like – ā€˜whole’, ā€˜equal parts’, ā€˜2 halves’ etc. To my surprise and delight, they absolutely loved when I folded a piece of A4 paper into halves and then kept folding and cutting until I got to the tiniest possible 2 halves I could make! I had their complete and utter attention! The children were then excited to give it a go. We will be consolidating halves and some of us will move on to quarters next week!

ā—¦ We had all the Chromebooks out on Wednesday afternoon to play maths games. The children had a set game to play – ordering numbers within a hundred and so on – then they could choose their own. It was great to see them choose some games to challenge themselves! Unfortunately we couldn’t play all games due to the Chromebooks no longer having the touch screen function but we had fun with what was available to us.

ā—¦ On Friday afternoon, to have fun with halves we made iced biscuits. The idea was to decorate each half after making a line to show each half in the icing. However, our icing took a long time to set but we still had fun decorating and eating! They all got to make two and hopefully one delicious biscuit made it home for you to try! šŸ˜‹

ā—¦ At our celebration assembly, the children from each year group were asked if they wanted to share any out of school achievements. Elliot, Mylo, Freya and Arthur volunteered to get up in front of the whole school and shared some exciting achievements namely: ice hockey, judo, gymnastics and kempo. Well done! šŸ‘ Zac G and Antoni were awarded the Star of the Week awards! Well done to our stars! 🌟🌟

ā—¦ In play, our favourite most played at areas have been: the ā€˜shop’ where the children just love counting the coins and playing shopkeepers and the construction area, where they have been constructing exciting builds from their own imagination and from the Kapla book. When Mr Wemyss came to help in our class he was so impressed by the attention to detail and architectural feats on display! It was also lovely to see the children working as a team to work on their projects. ā˜ŗļø

Sports day was postponed due to the rain ā˜”ļø but we hope to see you if you can make it on Tuesday at 9:30. The activities will begin at 9:40. As I have also mentioned our class learning assembly is on Friday June 7th at 9:30. We hope you can make it. ā€˜We’ (mainly me!) are a little nervous about it but we hope to make you smile by sharing some of our recent P1/2 learning highlights. šŸ˜€ We will start at 9:30am in the school hall and after we have shared you will be able to stay and say hello to your child and see anything we’ve shared up close!

Have a lovely weekend everyone!
