Week beginning 23.9.24

Week 6 of Primary 1 complete! Another really busy week full of fun and learning.

In literacy we have introduced the sounds Nn and Ii this week. We have been practising hearing, seeing and writing these sounds. Next week we will be revising all 7 sounds that have been taught so far. ( L s a t p i n) . The children have been exposed to the skill of blending this week. This is when we ( initially) put 2 or 3 sounds together to make words. We emphasise each individual sound and then push the sounds together to form the word. Eg t  a   p = tap. We will share a video next week modelling this skill.  For writing this week we had lots of fun jumping in puddles 😃💧🌧️

It was great to see the children reflecting on this experience in their writing. They were able to share what it sounded like, felt like and looked like. Here are their masterpieces. See if your child can spot their own 🤩

In numeracy and number this week we have been looking at comparisons. We started this by showing the class two amounts and questioning which has more? Which has less? We then moved on to being able to explore questions like…..are there enough chairs for the bears?

This has allowed for lots of counting experiences and discussions about what we can do with this information to compare the two quantities.  We have exposed the children to the symbols < and >

As it’s Maths Scotland week with our P7 buddies  we looked at following simple instructions to make origami creations. Hopefully these made it home with your child today. 😃 

We were delighted that some of the children had the opportunity to make play -doh in class this week. The aim is that in time the children will be able to follow these instructions independently to be able to make their own play-doh in the class.  😁 The children discussed the number of ingredients needed,  the order to carry out each of the instructions and what to do at each step. They were encouraged to use the pictures to help. We were so proud of how well they listened and took part in this task. All the children will get a turn of this activity over the next few weeks.
