Week beginning 7/10/24

Well it’s hard to believe that Term 1 of Primary 1 is done and dusted. The children have been amazing and we have loved getting to know all their individual personalities!🤩

This week for numeracy we introduced counting collections. The children worked in pairs to count collections and state how many of each item they had- eg pasta pieces. The children loved being introduced to the class puppet, James. He was learning to count. He was making lots of mistakes in his counting and had to be shown strategies to help him learn. Eg counting in lines/ rows, moving each item as he said the number.  We also learned a new game called ‘Snap it’ . This involved the children having 5 cubes and exploring different ways of making the number 5.  Eg 3 and 2  4 and 1. See if your child can explain how to play the game at home. Today we were exploring how different numbers could make different shapes, inspired by the episode of Numberblocks called the Stampolines.

On Wednesday we spend the day talking about our families. The children had the opportunity to share their family photos and draw their own family. We have created a display with their wonderful artwork. I think you’ll agree they have done a fabulous job! What detail and character in all their pictures displayed 😍

For writing this week the children drew and described their P7 buddies.  We talked about the difference in height and the qualities we like in our buddies.

Our play this week has been extremely imaginative( and noisy🤣) The children have worked together beautifully to lead their play. We have seen the children explore all aspects of transport from a train, to an army tanker to an aeroplane coming in to land at the airport. Some children have also shown an interest in making potions which has led to discussion about mixing colours/ measure and cause and effect. We also had children using the carpet tiles to create their own dance floor and a production like of envelopes being made for a post office! Just lots of really creative play which in turn has led to learning opportunities.🤩

Some action shots from the gym…

We hope you have a good holiday. We are already looking forward to seeing all your happy faces and recharged brains ready for an action packed Term 2. 😄
