What a super sunny ☀️ fun and bubbly week we had in P1B last week!
Literacy
For Drawing Club we watched an episode of The Magic Roundabout called, “Bubbles.” This was our stimulus for drawing and for our writing this week! To help us experience and describe bubbles, we had a very bubbly Thursday morning. Each child got a little pack of bubbles 🫧 to have fun with. In addition we also had large bubble wands and we tried to make giant bubbles with hula hoops! It was such a lovely, happy and relaxing morning. As it was sunny we took our snacks outside too! When the children tried to make the giant bubbles, it was great to see them concentrate and take their time to create optimum bubble conditions! They absolutely loved it! On Friday we had a look at our photos and the children used the Describing Bubble to come up fantastic describing words to describe what the bubbles looked like, felt like, what size they were and what they did as they floated around the garden!
Maths
This week we had a big focus on money. First we learned about the concept of money and why we have it. The children also had to think about what humans would use if, like in the past, there was no such thing as money! This had us scratching our heads to comprehend. Some of the children came up with some interesting ideas such as: “You could say something really nice to someone and then ask them if they would give you the thing you wanted.” “You could use any teeth that fell out and see if they would want your tooth and give you the thing you wanted.” I thought these ideas were so lovely and it highlighted that they understood the idea of an exchange taking place. We looked at the concept of “value” and how much something was “worth” and then we explored the idea of using tokens. We learned that one token could have a different value for example, one token could be worth 1 “miggle” (a made up name for a value) or one token could be worth 2 miggles and so on. We explored making values in different ways e.g. can you make 3 miggles in different ways e.g. 1+1+1 tokens worth 1 miggle each or 1 token worth 1 miggle + 1 token worth 2 miggles! We also looked at different coins I.e. 1p, 2p, 5p and 10p and also 20p and 50p. We made 20p and 50p using 1p coins! It was great to get our hands on real pennies!
Gym
Over the last few weeks we have been learning football skills. We have the gym set up with different stations to help the children develop a variety of skills including: cooperation, communication, ball control, aiming and shooting! I’ve been very impressed with the progress the children have made!
We also had a fun afternoon in the gym with lots of different equipment. The children loved being able to play with different things. It was great to see how much fun they had!
House Team Sports!
On Friday the children took part in our House Team event. The children took part in football, dodgeball and basketball. The P7s were great coaches and P1B had a ball!
Play and Snack Time
We’ve had lots of creative play in all areas of the classroom. I loved seeing some of the children making clothing out of Numicon number shapes and linking chains! The children continue to enjoy sharing their snacks that look like letters or numbers! 😊
