Week beginning 25.3.25

We can’t believe we are almost at the end of Term. 3. Another action packed week in Primary 1.

For Drawing Club this week we focused on the story of the Gingerbread man. On Day 1 the children drew the Gingerbread man and on Day 2 they had to draw their own Gingerbread creation. We had so many amazing ideas- trucks, dolphins, Santa’s and a guinea pig ballerina just to name a few! See if your child can spot their Day 2 drawing and tell you about their magic codes.

For phonics this week we introduced the sound qu. The children learned that on its own the q is silent and it needs the u to make its sound.  The new common word- that -was also introduced.

For writing this week we focused on technical skills and went back to writing about 1 of 6 pictures. The children were encouraged to use a describing word in their sentence along with capital letters, finger spaces and full stops.

On Wednesday we started planning what we would like to do to improve the small playground. It’s so important to hear from the children what is important to them. From this we will begin to put an action plan together for Term 4 where the transformation will begin.

In maths we have been learning about ordinal numbers. The children have been looking at using the language 1st 2nd 3rd etc in different contexts. They have also been introduced to concepts like the first 4 in the line and been asked to compare this to 4th in line.  To reinforce the new language and concepts taught we played different games in the gym hall that involved the children getting into different groups eg- get into a group of 4. Could the first 2 people sit down/ could the 3rd person sit down etc.

Please check bags for some beautiful creations that have been lovingly made for loved ones at home. ❤️

We hope you are having a great weekend and we will see you all for our final week before the holidays. 😄
