Week beginning 23.06.25

Can you believe it, this was the penultimate week of Primary 1 and just 3 1/2 days left to go! Where has the time gone?

Thank you so much for all those who were able to join us for our First Lego League celebration event, it was wonderful to see so many families coming along. We hope you enjoyed joining us for the final session and seeing all the work that has gone on over the previous 10 sessions of this project.

We understand that events like these often fall during times when you are unable to attend so the video clip below shows photos from all of the sessions including the celebration event for those who missed it. If you watched it at the event, feel free to enjoy it again. If you didn’t get a chance to look at your child’s engineering notebook where they’ve been recording their ideas, these will be sent home at the end of term.

The rest of the week continued to be just as busy and we are still learning new skills!

A highlight of the week was an introduction to ‘tool talks’. This is where children learn a talk about the structure, use and safety elements of different tools and when they can demonstrate that they know the talk and understand this, they get to practise using the tool. Our first tool was the hammer! It was wonderful to see so many children eager to give it a go and showing great skills of strength, perseverance, patience and determination as they worked hard to hammer in their nail and remove it. As the children become increasingly proficient, in time they will be able to create their own models using different tools.

We also had the excitement of finding out our new classes for next year and having two transition visits. We hope everyone had a great time with their new class and are looking forward to Primary 2.

We also had our summer picnic and ventured out to Inshes Park to have our final session with our P7 buddies.

As usual there was lots of fun and learning through play as well. It’s been fascinating to see the development of the ‘salon’ complete with hair rollers and make up applicators created out of the K’NEX construction materials. I have to say, I don’t think I’ve ever seen K’NEX used for these purposes before so it was lovely to see this diversity! Lots of children had great fun creating and modifying an obstacle course. I think we had the largest shop that has ever been created in our room – the prices were quite exorbitant though! There was some super pattern creations and it was lovely to see the children being able to use the mathematical pattern naming structure to describe their patterns in general terms. Some children started to experiment with how to create tables and chairs out of the blocks and there was also an intricate ship model. Great learning everyone!

Well done Harry for your hard work with your horse riding. It was lovely to hear what you’ve been learning when you shared this with the class.

We hope you all had a great weekend. Here comes the final week!

  1. Thank you for such detailed blog posts this year. It’s been wonderful to read about their learning and see such happy smiles in the photos. It makes families really capture a glimpse of what happens inside school, so thanks again.
