Woohoo what two wonderful weeks we’ve had in Primary 1/2 ! I’ve really enjoyed getting to know all the new P1s & 2s and it’s been lovely to welcome back the children I had in P1 last year!
I’m so impressed by how quickly they’ve settled into their routines! It is great to see even within the first few weeks how some children’s confidence has grown as they become more familiar with their surroundings and the adults/ children within the room.
As we are a new class made up of children from two P1 classes and two nursery rooms, we have been focusing on building relationships. We’ve been playing games and have had Circle Time to help us learn each other’s names and get to know each other.
In literacy, we have been doing lots of listening and talking as well as questioning! We have a curious class who love to tease out their learning. We have drawn self-portraits and have painted pictures of ourselves and our friends. Some of us have had our ideas scribed by the teacher and some of us have been writing by ourselves.
In numeracy, we have been focusing on singing and joining in with number songs. We have been sequencing numbers with everyone on different starting points. What a confident class of counting superstars.
On Monday, the whole school was lucky enough to watch the production of Oliver Twist. The P1s were able to sit next to their P7 buddies and the P2s sat beside Primary 6! The P1s played with their buddies in the big playground this week. The focus was introducing the P1s to playground games in the hope that they can play these when outside at break and lunch. The P7s have been a fantastic support to our P1s over the last 2 weeks. It’s lovely to watch their bond grow over the year.
The P2s got the opportunity to meet up with the other P2 class when the P1s were with their buddies. They listened to a story about sharing and this helped them with their painting activity. They also got to play with each other in the small garden playground!
This blog will be updated weekly by Miss Carson. I aim to give you a wee ‘Snap Shot ‘of some of the highlights from our week. Photos can be really helpful for encouraging conversation and getting the children to chat about what they have done at school or talk about who they have played with.
