What a fantastic two weeks in P3/4LM. Thank you for all of your hard work and enthusiasm! We hope you all have a super weekend and we look forward to seeing you next week.
Maths
We have been enjoying exploring many different types of patterns and have realised that patterns are everywhere! We have been busy creating our own using a variety of materials. Check out some of the super pictures below:

As a class, we decided a pattern ‘has a rule that can be followed that helps us know how the pattern is continued.’

We have been working on identifying what type of pattern it is – repeating, growing, spatial, concentric or symmetrical. We have learned that sometimes a pattern can be a few of these. We also found that we didn’t always agree on what pattern is being followed, but we are working on sharing our opinions confidently and respectfully.
On Friday, we used cubes to create patterns (ABC, AABC etc) on different borders. Our challenge was to make the pattern fit the border. We realised that an AB pattern could fit into all 3 borders (12, 14 & 16 squared) because it was ‘only two things and 12, 14 and 16 are all in the two times table’. We had lots of excellent discussion around patterns that did not fit and the reasons for this. We found at an AA,BB,CC pattern could not fit in the 14 squared border because ’14 can’t fit 6 in it 3 times, it fits twice and then has two left over.’ We experimented with lots of different options and were able to fix mistakes when we made them.

Literacy
This term we are working on descriptions in writing. We are going to be creating our own ‘That’s not my…’ books for the P1s using our best descriptive language. On Thursday, we loved reading the stories and found there is a pattern we can follow. We also thought about different materials we can use to make the books as interactive as possible. As a class, we then created a word bank using lots of super adjectives. We are excited to start making our own next week!
