This week in P1/2 our focus in writing and heath & wellbeing was…superheroes! We thought about the superheroes we know and using the ‘describing bubble‘ – tried to describe their different features like costumes, powers and personalities. We then created our own superhero 🦸🏽♀️ identities for ourselves.
This focus linked to learning about being Rights Respecting and creating our class charter. We thought about what makes a good team or family and what we can do in our class to ensure the adults provide for our rights and we respect each others rights. These can be quite tricky concepts for young children but we will learn about our rights all year long! We can’t wait to share our charter with you!
The P1s were introduced to P and revised I this week. We made pink puffy paint pigs 🐖 and painted them with Pom-poms on pegs! For i we made igloos using ice brick shape sponges. We had fun making all our satipn sounds with plasticine and made things that start with those sounds. We have also been doing letter formation and oral blending and segmenting of words.
I worked with the P2s to work on their personal literacy targets. As a group we are learning our capital letters and doing lots of activities to support reading and writing. In writing ✍️ as well as focusing on using our sounds and knowledge of tricky words we are focusing on sentence structure.
In numeracy, we have focused on number formation and sequencing from any number. We have been looking at number composition and I have had time to continue individual assessments with the P2s.
Gym Update – We have now changed one of our gym days to a Tuesday afternoon. Miss Carson will take the Tuesday gym slot and my current management cover, Miss Corcoran, will take the Thursday slot. We had lots of fun with ball skills this week which we then applied to games on Thursday. I would encourage those of you that haven’t yet to put in a gym bag with a kit that we can keep at school. We will be sending gym kits home on the last week of this term. Thanks!
On Monday we went to the library 📚 and enjoyed choosing new books for class. The P1s had a sound hunt outside with their P7 buddies and the P2s had reading groups with Miss Carson.
In our play we had new inspiration challenges in construction and junk modelling. I was blown away by your building skills and the inventiveness and awesomeness of your solutions.
Thanks P1/2 for all your super creative effort that you put into your learning this week!
Enjoy your weekend.
