Some key skills the children practiced and developed last week were:
* Gross motor skills – we created ‘areoplane planks’ which the children carefully balanced along, learning to use their arms to support them and developing space awareness.
* Fine motor skills – rolling playdoh into sausages and balls, supporting the development of small finger muscles which prepare them for writing.
* Cognitive skills – we used pipes to roll balls down and were estimating who’s ball would roll the furthest.
Some of the children had a great time outdoors on Friday where they were “digging for treasure”. We had soon created our very own story involving a fairy and letters with “magic writing” on. The children gathered up a big piece of paper and some pens and put together their own letter to the fairy asking what the letters said. They then buried it in the mud where they had found the treasure to see if the fairy would pick it up over the weekend! I wonder what will happen next?!
