Week beginning 5.2 24

Another action packed week in P1.

This week in literacy the children have been introduced to the sounds y and x. We are also introducing a new tricky word each week. Today we introduced ‘to’. The children have made me smile so much with their excitement  as they find the tricky words around the classroom and school. 🙂

In maths we have been looking at measure. We started off by discussing the terms long and short. We ordered items from longest to shortest and shortest to longest. We also talked about how we can measure things. To begin with we used cubes to measure items in the classroom. Today we moved onto measuring items in the classroom using a ruler. We had to remember to make sure we always start at the 0.

On Tuesday afternoon we had a great time as we welcomed Patrick’s Dad into the class. He told the class all about his job as a helicopter pilot for the search and rescue team. The children had so many fantastic questions and loved to see the ‘gear ‘ he has to wear when out on a ‘rescue’.

On Monday we will be issuing a permission slip as we are planning 3 trips this term linked to our topic- ‘Jobs in the Community’. Please look out for this.

This morning we attended assembly. Today we were joined by Mr Scott the minister. He shared a lovely story with us about how we all have different fears but it is important to talk about our fears with people we trust as they might be able to help us overcome them. Our Star of the Week was announced at assembly. This week it was Cal. Well done Cal.

This afternoon we learned a little bit about Chinese New Year. We then made our own amazing lanterns.🙂 A couple of children are to finish these off on Monday as you’ll see from the photos the classroom was in a bit of a glittery mess so we had to stop and get tidied up!

Have a great weekend.
