The sun came out this week just in time for our Sports Day practices! We’ve been having lots of fun practicing our races in our House Teams. The children did a fantastic job of following instructions and moving around the field to the different sports activities. Remember the P1-3 Sports Day is on this Thursday at 9:30am if you are able to come along. The children will need their gym kits and can come already dressed in them.
With the sun making some appearances, please remember to pack some sunscreen in your child’s bag. After running about and being outside for break, lunch and then other times during the day, many children will need to reapply. It’s helpful to have your child’s name written on the bottle so we can help them know which is theirs. We have explained that they are not to share their sunscreen with others. Sun hats 🧢 👒 are also a good idea too. Please remember to label them. Thanks! ☺️
On Monday, the P2s were so delighted to have a little visitor come and see us! Elliot’s sister Erica and mum came to help us learn about how to care for a baby. We learned about the things that a baby needs and the things that parents need to provide them with to stay safe, happy and healthy. Erica was a great wee teacher! Thanks so much for coming! The P1s were with their P7 buddies on Monday afternoon but were given a chance to meet Erica too!
What else did we get up to this week? More highlights!
◦ Counting money and making totals in different ways. Some of us were learning to make £1 or more, some of us were working with coins up to 20p or 10p or 5p. Some of us learned about a helpful step in learning about how to ascribe value to coins. We used dots instead of coins. I was amazed to see the children’s understanding of making different totals with the dots. With this method there was more emphasis on the children exploring and accessing their knowledge and understanding to problem solve. More active than passive learning! Our next step will be to move from dots to coins. Exciting!
◦ We have been practising our learned double sounds and using them in our writing. This week we wrote oa and ou sentences. In our jotters we made funny oa word stories!
◦ We are making a concerted effort to learn capital letters and use them at the beginning of our sentences. We’ve been introduced to them over the year and now we are focusing on making sure we know the letter name and letter sound.
◦ On Friday afternoons we do a step by step drawing. It’s great to have seen the children develop confidence in drawing skills and also in their ability to listen to and follow instructions. Sometimes we focus on more realistic styles with this week being cartoon and Kawaii styles. We drew frogs this week and some of us added tadpoles to our drawings.
