Week beginning 2.9.24

Welcome to our Primary 1A blog.

It is so exciting that we will be able to share with you some of the learning that has been taking place in our class over the last few weeks.

The children have all settled in really well and are starting to show more confidence as they get to know the daily routines. 😄

In literacy we have introduced 3 letters so far. These are Ll, Ss and Aa. When each letter is introduced to the children they are taught the letters name and sound. Please see the short videos that we will attach separately for each letter . In Primary 1 we really focus on the sound of each letter as the children will begin to use the sounds to help them learn to read.   Today we were looking at the sound Aa. At snack time the children were offered to taste green and red aaaapples. We talked about the flavour and textures of the apples . We used words like ‘crunchy’ ‘hard’ ‘sour’ and ‘sweet’. We then voted to see which apple we preferred the taste of and analysed our results.  Ask your child to see if they can share with you which apple was the most popular. It’s lovely to listen to the childrens discussions now they have been exposed to some sounds as they are showing much more awareness of what sounds they can hear in their names and even words and objects in the classroom.

In numeracy we have been looking at patterns. It has been fantastic to then watch the children take this learning into their play as they create amazing patterns from the play resources. They are all becoming really confident at describing the patterns they have made. 😄 We have also been looking at number recognition of 1,2 and 3. We have looked at how we can make these numbers with ours fingers, with cubes , numicon, on dominoes, a dice, on a five and tens frame etc. This helps the children to understand that numbers can be made in different ways.

For gym the first few weeks we have teamed up with Primary 1B. We haven’t yet changed for gym . The first few weeks we have been focusing on being able to take off and put on our socks and shoes. The children have had the opportunity to explore a range of different equipment in the gym as well as mix with their peers. It has been amazing to see their ability to climb, risk take, take turns, balance and learn from others.

The children have really enjoyed exploring our space both inside and out and are becoming familiar with all the play resources available. Here are some action shots from the last few weeks…

We love hearing about the children’s achievements out of school so please feel free to share them with us. Luke shared with us his swimming trophy and Jack showed the class his medal and certificate from the summer reading challenge.

Have a lovely weekend. We look forward to seeing everyone’s smiley faces on Monday ready for week 4 of Primary 1!! 😄
