Week beginning 7.11.24

It has been a very busy week in Primary 1 this week.

Over the course of the week the children have been making beautiful Christmas cards. These will be sent home on Monday. There will be an option to buy Christmas cards, mugs, labels etc with your child’s design on it. More information regarding this will be shared with your child’s Christmas picture on Monday.  We are so proud of the effort the children put into these. They are just beautiful…and very cute!😍

For literacy this week we introduced the sounds o and m. The children are getting so good at listing words they can hear with these sounds in them. We discussed if we can hear the sound at the start, middle or end of the word. On Monday we made our own octopus’.  They are fantastic and all very unique. 🤩 We are visiting the skill of being able to blend daily too.  This is when we put two or three sounds together and sound them out to read the word. Today the children were shown the common words I and the. We discussed that these are words we need to learn to read. At this stage they are trickier for the children as they can’t sound them out. They have to learn them through lots of practice of seeing them. For writing today the children drew a new self portrait. We did this at the start of Term 1 and it’s AMAZING to see the progress in their drawings this term! The amount of detail they have included and the size and positioning of body parts. The children asked if they could take them home so we will send a copy of them home on  Monday.

This afternoon we went outside with our P7 buddies to make the most of this beautiful weather. The Primary 7s supported the P1s to play stuck in the mud, Duck Duck Goose, What’s the time Mr Wolf and exploring the adventure playground.

In gym on Monday we continued to practice our gymnastics shapes. We focused on the dish and pike. On Thursday we played team games and did relay races with activities to improve our coordination. Eg balancing coits on our heads, beanbags on bats.

We were delighted that Oliver and Sophie got announced as our class reps for the Rights Respecting team. 🤩 We are also very proud of Isla for achieving her level 1 in gymnastics.

In class this week we have introduced  two new goals- showing kindness to one another and looking after our resources. After reading a story to the class about kindness Hamish suggested we should make a class book on kindness. 🤩 So today we started our very own book called ‘Kind Acts by P1A’

Play- we have had some lovely moments in play this week

Have a lovely weekend and we will see you all next week for another action packed week.
