Week beginning 13.01.25

Welcome back. We were so pleased to see all our little Superstars last Monday.  They embraced the snow so well and had great fun with their friends.

In literacy we have been revising all the sounds that have been previously taught. We have spent a lot of time looking at the similarities and differences between certain sounds- in particular d,b and p. As part of this we have been recapping the letter formation and highlighting where each of these sounds start. We have introduced lines to our formation sessions and made the children aware if letters are tall, small or do they fall (part of the letter falls below the line).  We are also continuing to work hard on our blending skills.

Here we are practising writing our sounds on our partners back and seeing if they can guess the sound. 😁

Today for writing we were focusing on the tools. The children made me so proud of all their amazing blending skills. They ALL tried really hard to sound out words to share what they could see in the picture.  Eg-  a dog, Pat a dog, A big dog. We talked a lot about the sounds we could hear, finger spaces, full stops and capital letters.

In maths this week the children have been learning about symmetry. They have had opportunities to make their own symmetrical pictures and reinforce this knowledge by playing games on  the chromebooks.

We have also explored making different combinations of  making the number 8. To help reinforce this the children have played a number of active games. A lot of our maths activities this week have involved working in partnership. To help support this, at the start of the week the class read a story called the Collaboration Station. They talked about what working in partnership looks like, sounds like and feels like.

We have had some lovely moments in play this week.

A few action shots from gym …

Have a great weekend. We look forward to seeing you all on Monday 😁
