Week beginning 5.5.25

Another very quick week for us in Primary 1.

Our focus this week has been on our Key Assessment task which is linked to Drawing Club. This week the class has read the story “The Giant Jam Sandwich”.  They have really impressed us over the course of the week with their descriptions and amazing imaginations. We think you will be wow’d  by the detail in their drawings when we send them home. 😁

In maths we have continued to focus on addition and subtraction. The children have been given word problems and they have had to decide if they are addition or subtraction and how to solve them.eg

We have also returned to money. The children were working in groups to make amounts using 1ps. Eg 10x 1p =10p    20x1p =20p.  We went all the way up to 100x1p=£1. To help the children count out the 1ps we used tens frames. This involved a lot of team work and concentration.

We are hoping to set up a shop in the class next week to help the children with their understanding of  using money/ exchanging it for items. Over the course of the last few weeks they have each made their own play money from real coin rubbings and their own purse.

We were so excited on Thursday as Emily brought in tadpoles to share with the class. This spurred on an impromptu lesson about the life cycle of a frog. 🐸 As the children showed such an interest we will continue learning more about this next week. Thank you Emily ⭐

Our potatoes are beginning to grow little stems with small leaves which is very exciting. We will continue to water them each week and monitor the growth.

A few of our play highlights….

We hope you have an amazing weekend in this lovely sunny weather 🌡️🌞😁 See you all on Monday!
