Week beginning 18.11.24

Well that’s the end of another busy week in P1. We have been so impressed with how well the children have coped with the snow and having to layer up every time they head out to play. 🌨️❄️⛄  They have had loads of fun sledging and making snowmen. Please look at the main blog for photos. As the colder weather has made an appearance could we please ask that your child has at least one pair of spare socks in their bag. Over the last few days we’ve had lots of soggy socks and our school supply is running very low! Thanks 🤩

In phonics this week the children have been learning about the sound c/ k / ck We have had lots of discussions around the fact that although there are 3 ways of writing this sound they all make the same sound. We have looked at words that start or have this sound in it and discussed is it a curly c or kicking k.

In maths this week we have continued to explore shapes. The children were set the challenge of using a selection of 3D shapes to create something. These are the items they could choose from.

The children had to work together in pairs to discuss what they wanted to make and how they could make it using the resources provided. Soon( as part of their key assessment task) you will see the amazing creations they have made. As they were making them it was great to listen to the discussions they had which helped them choose/ eliminate resources.  Eg this one is too long. We need to find two that are the same length.

Our writing this week is also part of the key assessment task and links to the models the children made. They had to draw their model and describe it using shape, positional and size sentences. These will also be shared with you soon! ☺️

As it is Book Week Scotland we were delighted to invite author Corrina Campbell into Inshes to work with the P1s. She shared her books with the children and gave them a crash course on how to draw one of the characters by using shapes. I think you’ll agree what an amazing job they have done!🤩

We were delighted to welcome so many of you into our classroom on Wednesday and Friday for the Open Afternoons. We hope you enjoyed seeing the classroom environment and getting a taste of what P1 is like.

In gym this week we have continued to look at our gymnastics shapes and have started to link 2 or 3 of our shapes into a sequence of movements. Eg straddle followed by a dish.

Below are a few snap shots taken during play this week. Ask us what we are doing/ what we have created 😁.

Please leave a comment :)
